OC Portfolio Review
An event brand system built to nudge young design professionals into the industry with curiosity and confidence.
The Objective
OC Portfolio Review is the capstone event of Chapman University’s Graphic Design program, where juniors and seniors present their work to industry professionals for feedback and possible job opportunities. The branding of past reviews has emphasized “finding your destination,” but this message can seem so rigid and defined in a post-pandemic world of uncertainty and constant change.
The Solution
In 2021 and the years following, OC Portfolio Review’s theme has become “Explore New Horizons;” acknowledging the many of post-grad possibilities within the design industry and young designers’ ability to shift directions throughout their careers. The future is not rigid, but rather flexible and welcoming. Therefore, this optimistic outlook encourages young Graphic Designers to step into the world open to endless opportunities for exploration. The Website
Concise and Stylized
Reviewers and Students are directed to the OC Portfolio from email invitations and social media promotion for the event. Here, they can read more about the event details and sign up for the event. The primary brand colors create a cohesive experience from across platforms. Purple headers are used for general information, gold for reviewers, and pink for students.
Day of Collateral
Specific and Anticipatory
Day of Collateral must simplify the complex and competitive system of the OC Portfolio Review as much as possible to alleviate stress and mitigate confusion. Reviewer Signup sheets prioritize the important information that students will want to know when selecting their reviewers and the signup envelopes that students receive upon arrival clearly differentiate the signup order using the secondary brand colors and group numbers. The envelope also includes a few New Horizons stickers to create excitement and commemorate students’ journey into the professional world.
